The Agaseke, Rwanda’s oldest traditional basket, was traditionally used for transporting gifts. Today, it is a cultural emblem that represents generosity, gratitude, and compassion. This piece was created in the same traditional weaving technique of the Agaseke. The highly-skilled craft has been passed down for centuries from mother to daughter then shared among the women in each village. Each piece is made from sisal fibers harvested from local agave plants, which is sun-dried then dyed using organic materials.
