Designed in the 1950s by Carlo Hauner and Martin Eisler, this rare 3-in-1 extendable dining table exemplifies the intelligence and refinement that defined early Brazilian Modernism. Crafted in solid caviuna hardwood, the table relies almost entirely on traditional wood joinery, with minimal use of screws or nails—an approach that reflects both artisanal mastery and structural confidence.
The table adjusts seamlessly into three configurations: compact, intermediate, and fully extended, accommodating four, six, or eight diners without disrupting its proportions, as shown in the images. This emphasis on adaptability mirrors the postwar Brazilian ethos of functional modern living, where furniture was designed to evolve with domestic life rather than dictate it.
Recently refinished, the wood displays a deep, expressive grain with subtle age marks consistent with period use. Distributor seals remain intact beneath the tabletop, reinforcing authenticity. Equally suited to mid-century seating or contemporary interiors, this table stands as a sculptural yet practical anchor—an enduring collaboration between two of Brazil’s most influential modern designers.
